chocolatier
what is the first thing that comes to your mind, regarding "chocolatier"? erm.. that would definitely be chocolate. hahaha. that beside the point, everything from there is rich in flavour. from the drinks, the snacks to the very location of the cafe, everything you find that is unique. can't seems to find it else where.
what i am going to introduce you to is "Laurent's Cafe & Chocolate Bar". its located over at 5B portsdown road. to make thing easy for you, the number to call to make reservation is 6475 4182.
what is so special about this place? for starters, lets talk about the cafe's layout and design. located in the midst of the colonial buildings, away from the city buss, it offers you an escape from the routine life. soaking in the afternoon sun, there are sofa placed in the cafe courtyard for those who can't get enough of the sun shine. (ok, i went there in the afternoon, thats why. but, i think that the night time, that would be a pleasant setting) along the corridors, cosy 2 seater are placed with plants as decorations, providing privacy for couples. as for the interior of the cafe, there is one chiller erected within. bottles of red and white wine lined up neatly along the shelves, allowing these bottles to age. i must say that there are large variety of wine, even though i don't really know wine appreciation.
looking through the glass panel from the chiller lies the kitchen. the place where all the snacks comes from. surprising, they are the one that provided desserts for some other stall.. most be really reputable. plus point. next to the open style kitchen, is the counter with many cakes on display. they all looked delicious. haha.
finally, the drinks and desserts. that is the selling point. its plain good. i ordered a hot chocolate coffee, which comes with a cupcake baked till golden crispy kind. (i cant remember the name for the desserts) dipping the cupcake into the hot chocolate coffee, the rich chocolate taste brought out the sweet vanilla taste of the cupcake. its really really nice. you would definitely ask for more, but too bad they sell them. haha. of course, there are other specialties being sold there, like the tea which allows refill of the tea flask and the brownie taste-alike cookie. but, all these stuffs don't come cheap. a cup of chocolate coffee cost $8. sweet price for a large serving. haha. i must say, that you are paying for good stuffs and the ambiance. it worth the money. by the way, for those who find that place for very accessible, there is another branch over at Muhammad Sultan area.
