the receiver
Of the 2 novels that were used as examination materials for literature in my secondary school, the novel titled "The Receiver" struck a deep impression on me. In the world of no pain, no nightmares, where everything has its own path already planned out. There was order in everywhere, strict routines and rules that everyone has to follow and adhere to. Like bees in a hive, they all grew up to take various posts and jobs. Its all predestined.




Of all these jobs, there was one job that was unheard of, out of the ordinary. It called the receiver. The receiver job was to remove all the negative memories like the war period of the entire population. Saving the rest from all the nightmares, the chosen one had to endure all these on their behalves. It was definitely mentally draining for him.




Everyone, in a way or the other, is like this receiver. Although we couldn't erase other memories like he did in the novel, we certainly can help share other's burdens. Its like a form of supportive pillar to them, easing of the psychological burden. Showing empathy, standing in their shoes, exclaiming the fact that "YOU ARE NOT ALONE", you don't have to go through this by yourself.





ps. I didn't finished reading that book because I don't really like reading back then. Therefore, should there be any error in the story, please pardon me. Oh by the way, my facebook hero has the ability to manipulate other people's memories. So does that makes me a receiver too? lol.
